The Pieffe Disegni method: how we manage an industrial project, from request to delivery

Ever since 2000, the year we were founded, companies that turn to Pieffe Disegni find an agile mechanical design studio with deep, vertical expertise in the full-scope development of solutions for industry.

Over the years we have built automation systems for loading/unloading, revamped machine tools, built grinding machines, rotary tables, and many other solutions, described in detail in our blog and in the dedicated section of the website.

Every project is different from the next, just as every client is different from the next. Naturally, every request is customized as well. It’s fair to say that our projects are unique, and that we have also developed entirely original solutions, such as a heat-stitching machine with a system able to keep the edges being joined perfectly aligned: a substantial innovation for the sector.

While requests differ and outcomes are specific to each case, anyone who relies on our design studio can count on a well-established working method that has proven effective, while always remaining open to updates and improvements.

Order management at Pieffe Disegni is an adaptable process, designed to meet each client’s needs. Even though every project has its own specificities, certain fundamentals remain constant.

Below, we walk you through these key steps.

  • Analysis of the client’s technical requirements: the first step is to fully understand the client’s needs. To do this, we listen carefully, making ourselves available for discussion, whether remote or on-site, and we carefully review the technical requirements shared with us, so as to define the final objective as clearly as possible.
  • Drafting and approval of the technical data sheet for the product to be developed: next, we draw up a detailed technical data sheet for the product we are about to develop. This document serves as the reference point for the entire project and, for the mutual protection of both parties, we ask that it be approved by the client before proceeding.
  • Alignment of CAD and PDM software settings: to ensure that the material produced is fully manageable by the client, we align our CAD and PDM software settings with those of the client. We hold all the major licenses, guaranteeing immediate compatibility between our systems and those of the companies that choose us.
  • Review of the client’s coding and order management system: to ensure effective communication and collaboration, including with the technical department and/or purchasing office, where present.
  • Preliminary study: this step is essential for identifying initial ideas for developing the machinery and for highlighting any potential issues or critical points.
  • Review of the preliminary study with the client: once the preliminary study is complete, we share it with the client. This gives us early, direct feedback, allowing us to identify any critical issues and address them promptly, while still at the design stage. This sharing also helps us better understand how the machine will be used, so we can introduce any adjustments needed without disrupting operators’ existing way of working.
  • Development of the final design: this is the heart of our work, where ideas take shape. During this phase, we hold regular meetings with the client to share and discuss the solutions we propose.
  • Production of technical drawings for components, and assembly and installation drawings: this step includes creating detailed component diagrams and assembly and installation instructions.
  • Production of hydraulic and/or pneumatic diagrams, installation and foundation drawings, etc.: these diagrams provide detailed guidance on integrating the machinery into the client’s operational context.
  • Production of bills of materials and sizing and/or FEM calculation reports: finally, we produce the bills of materials and calculation reports, providing detailed information on the sizing and structural analysis of the machinery’s components.

Throughout the entire process, communication with the client is essential. We aim to maintain a constant exchange of information, so that the client is always aware of the project’s progress. In this way, by the end of the work, the client receives a shared, already familiar product, one more likely to fully meet the need it was designed for.

Order management at Pieffe Disegni is a process aimed at delivering a personalized, highly specialized service. Our goal is to create solutions that perfectly meet client needs, while guaranteeing a high level of quality and professionalism.
